The German AICA mourns the loss of Hans Platschek, a member since 1987. The painter, writer and critic was 76 years old. He died in Hamburg in February 2000.
Hans Platschek, born in Berlin, drew from his double talents. As a painter, he belonged in the 50's to the German Informel with his own trademark style. Later his interests returned to the examination of the figurative.
The art critic Platschek was often a decided critic of artists - most of all where he suspected charlatans were at work. Many of his texts reveal him to be a pure polemicist. The title of his anthology »On the Stupidity in Painting« (first edition 1984) made this amply clear.
We will treasure the memory of Hans Platschek.
